Scrooged is one of those “must watch” films at Christmas.
While it’s a bit dated now, it’s a “modern” verison of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
Bill Murray stars as Frank Cross, a selfish, money-centred TV boss who doesn’t appreciate the real meaning of Christmas. Instead of spreading Christmas cheer, Frank spends his time ordering around his secretary, undermining his employees and generally being a nasty person.
All this changes though, when he is visited by three ghosts. The ghost of Christmas past is a scary-looking, cigarette-smoking cab-driver, the Ghost of Christmas Present is a violent little fairy and the Ghost of Christmas Future is like something from a horror movie.
With impressive effects, a great cast and a happy ending – it isn’t hard to see why it’s a widely loved and appreciated Christmas film.
Bill Murray plays his role well – as well as he does in his other films including but not limited to Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters. And like these films, Scrooged is an instant classic – and for good reason: it’s funny, entertaining and heart-warming!
And I mean is it really Christmas, if you’ve not seen Bill Murray being hit over the head with a toaster?
