An inspiring, feel good musical, The Greatest Showman is an almost perfect film with a first class cast who give a stellar, unwavering performance.
Based on the incredible imagination of PT Barnum, The Greatest Showman tells the original story of a visionary who started from nothing and became a loved, showman who brought joy to many, bringing people together.
An instant classic, The Greatest Showman, has won it’s following gradually through word of mouth and numerous sing-along screenings and is now rightfully recognised for the all-singing and all-dancing masterpiece that it is.
Hugh Jackman, who showcased his incredible singing voice in the showstopping 2012 Les Miserables film, stars in the lead role as PT Barnum – a poor boy who falls in love with an upper class girl, Charity (Michelle Williams). He promised her a perfect life and worked hard to provide this for her and their family.
After losing his job, he takes out a loan and buys a museum, and so begins showbusiness.
When his museum doesn’t attract as many people as he hoped, he searches for ‘freaks’ to perform, changing the name of the venue to Barnum’s Circus.
Though this brings controversy.
To attract some of the upper classes, Barnum partners up with Phillip Carlisle (Zac Efron) – a notable and respectable playwright.
There’s love, jealousy, betrayal and action in this fast-paced musical, as well as a catchy soundtrack.
Exploring class and race issues, The Greatest Showman is socially aware and striking in its celebration of humanity.
A feel-good film, it’s not hard to see why everyone has been rewatching this one like their life depended on it…
